2010-2011 Annual Fund

Dear Alumni and SI Community,

I would like to express my profound gratitude for your continued commitment to our students and our mission. Whether thoughts of SI conjure up memories of the Old Shirt Factory, Stanyan Street or 37th Avenue, we share the same SI that was founded by a small group of Jesuits 154 years ago.

The school is thriving, educating young adults to bring their talents to the world with conscience, competence and compassion. We continue to retain a talented, dedicated and diverse faculty, who go beyond the classroom to coach our students, lead their retreats, moderate their clubs, and inspire them to become the leaders of tomorrow. And the campus still feels fresh and new, though we have entered our 41st year at our Sunset District site - the longest run at any of our 6 locations!

None of this would be possible without you, our esteemed alumni, parents and friends. Your support and commitment to Ignatian values means even more to us in these times of economic uncertainty. It is because of your generosity that we are surviving.

The challenge ahead in 2009-2010 is to increase our financial aid scholarship endowment and secure the necessary gifts to fund our newly leased 8.5 acre Fairmont Field in Pacifica. SI's scholarship program allows us to keep our long-standing pledge "not to turn any deserving student away from S.I. due to financial need" as more and more families are applying for aid. The addition of Fairmont Field could not have come at a better time. Approximately 860 students compete on 65 teams in 26 sports, though SI had been restricted to the 1.5 fields on its 11-acre campus up to now. At long last, we have additional space for our athletes to call home and your support of the SI Annual Fund will help us maintain those fields for years to come.

For these reasons, I humbly ask again that you support the SI Annual Fund. Your generous gift, no matter the amount, will help us lay the groundwork for the next chapter in the history of SI. Your continued support sets a valuable example to all of our students of the need "to give and not to count the cost" and has allowed SI to thrive in good economic times and survive in difficult times. Thanks to you, the spirit of Ignatius, who served God and others, is alive and well. God bless you, and thank you for your thoughtful consideration of my request. You are in my prayers and those of the Jesuits.

Most sincerely,

Robert T. Walsh, S.J.
